Armageddon Summer
About the Story:
“This Time, the World Will End in Fire”
“The world will end on Thursday, July 27, 2000”
That’s what Reverend Beelson has told his congregation.
Marina’s mom believes. So does Jed’s dad. That’s why they’ve dragged Marina and Jed to a mountain retreat with the rest of the Reverend’s flock. From the mountaintop, the Believers will watch the Righteous Conflagration that will scour the world cleanand then they will descend to begin God’s world anew.
But this world has only just begun for Marina and Jed, two teenagers who have more fear than fervor, more attitude than belief. Why is God testing Marina’s faith? Why would God let Jed’s mom and sister burn but spare Jed and his dad? Why do the Believers patrol the compound’s electric fences with automatic rifles at the ready?
And why should the world end now, when Marina and Jed have just fallen in love for the first time in their lives?
