The Dragonslayers
Though most people know The Dragonslayers as a novel, it began life as a musical that I wrote for my fourth graders back when I was a full time teacher. I collaborated with Angela Peterson, the music teacher in our school (Wetzel Road Elementary, Liverpool, NY) on the songs, and producing and directing it was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.
Several years later Syracuse Stage, a professional theater company, contacted me and asked if I had a book they could adapt as a theater piece. I replied that not only did I have the book, I had the script and the songs to go with it.

When the theater decided to do the show, they gave it the most beautiful production I could have asked for. Full arrangements for the music created by Dianne Adams McDowell and Jim McDowell and a terrific cast led to a spectacular performance. We got so carried away that we recorded a cast album, which is available in both CD and cassette versions.Click here for ordering information.
