Welcome to the Guestbook!

I'm always eager to read your comments about my books and stories, so please feel free to pitch in. Here are a few things for you to know:

1) I answer the messages here personally.

2) No message shows up here until I actually answer it. To prevent spam and other inappropriate postings. So there will sometimes be a delay before your message posts, especially if I am traveling.

DEEP APOLOGIES! Due to a glitch in the Guestbook I have not been receiving notifications of new messages for some months now. I should have spotted this, but I have been so busy with so many things that it went right by me. But yesterday (February 9) I started wondering about it, and when I went into the Guestbook registry I was horrified to find dozens, maybe even hundreds, of unanswered messages. I'm beginning to work on taking care of the backlog, but it's going to take me some time. If you left a message, my apologies for not having responded. (By the way, this is a good reason to fill in your email when you leave a message. It does NOT appear in the public guestbook, but it does mean that you will get a notification when I answer you.)

-Bruce Coville

Mr. Coville, I had my third grade class write to you a few years ago. They enjoyed your books that were read in my classroom. I am now teaching the fourth graders and again you are their favorite author in our class. We love your fantasy stories. Thanks for the newest story in the Unicorn cronicles. Several of my students have come back to let me know it had been published and they've enjoyed it. Thanks again Mrs. Barnett.

I read "Into the Land of the Unicorns" just recently and I had to find the second one right away. I spent forever online trying to find it. When I finally did, I had it done in 2 days!! At the aprt where Lightfoot and the Dimblethum come out and help Cara and the other Unicorns fight off the delvers, I started like screaming at the book and my mom asked why. I tried to explain the whole thing to her but it didn't work and she just looked at me like I was crazy!! Oh well, at least I knew what happened!! Lightfoot is the best Unicorn in your books and I hope he is included in the next book from your series!! Please let me know when it comes out so I can get it!! I can't wait!! i love the way you use characters from one story in another. It makes it so interesting!! Is Cara, from the Unicorn Chronicles, named after your daughter?? Thanks for reading.

When I read the second book in the series, and Lightfoot appeared out of the forest to help fight the delvers, I started like screaming at the book and when my mom asked why

I enjoyed your author talk at the RR Conference in Nashville. I am also one of those "happy oddballs." I only discovered that I was one when I became a teacher. At the schools that I work at we do a personality tests called "True Colors" I have yet to find someone with my colors in all of the schools I have worked.I found something by Apple computer company that I thought you would appreciate. To the Crazy Ones. Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They are not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo.You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify them or vilify themAbout the only thing you can't do is ignore them.Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written?Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.Lynn Futch

Hi! Just got to meet you this week at the Reading Renaissance conference in Nashville. I was so excited to get an autographed copy of your book for my 5th graders. They are going to LOVE it! Thanks for being so generous with your time at the author signing. You made it much more special- something to tell the kids about. I also thoroughly enjoyed your author talk. I was moved to tears as you spoke of those oddballs in my classroom. Thanks for the reminder of how powerful my influence is on each of those precious kids! I needed my spirits revived. Have a great day- Karen

Bruce:I really enjoy reading your books. I teach fourth grade here in Birmingham and just started reading "The Skull of Truth" to my students. They love it, but I have one problem. I have a parent that believes your books are bad for her child to listen to. The title is a little deceiving, and it really bothers me that she doesn't want him to hear me read this out loud. This book came highly recommended and the kids love it. How do you suggest I convince a parent that this is good reading and not bad for her child to listen to??? Please help.

Dear Bruce:Hi there. I am so glad that you are now on-line. I tried to reach you when I was back in NY for my 10-year reunion back in '98, but we just never connected. (Ugh! Has it really been that long?!) Although my 30th birthday just passed, I still read your books. In fact, I just caught the reference to Mrs. Peterson (well, her maiden name, anyway) in your Sixth Grade Alien series. I burst out laughing and had to explain to my husband how I knew who she was and that I remembered the music room was down the hallway from the art room at Wetzel Road. On another note, when will you be out this way next? I heard that you attend an annual Writer's Conference out here, but I couldn't get any other details. Hope all is well, and say hi to Orion if he remembers me.

Mr. Coville, I've been reading your retelling of Macbeth to the fourth grade students at Jamesville Elementary School as part of a special lunch time reading group. They are enthralled with the story. These students are self-selected and cover a range of interests and abilities. Every one of them seems to take something away from the story each time I read it. They particularly like the fact that you kept a lot of Shakespeare's language.Thank you for providing us with this wonderful book. Do you have any other Shakespeare plays in your future (we also have The Tempest)?Marcie Mann, Library intern, Jamesville Elementary School.

Dear Mr. Coville,Through my years of elementary school, your books were among my favorite things. I had an impressive collection of your novels, including some of the "Space Brat" series, the complete "My Teacher" series, the "Bruce Coville's Book of" series the Dragon Slayers, Monster of the year, and my personal favorite, the first three books of the Alien's series, starring Rod Albright. It was you and your books alone that inspired me to aspire to become an author, who, like you, writes a delightful mixture of Sci-fi and Fantasy. I have such fond memories of curling up with one of your books, reading on vacations, and looking forward to buying them at a shop. But then one day, I grew up. Middle school began, my social life became more complex, girl's, came into the picture, I started reading books at my reading level, such as the Hobbit, and, above all, I lost track of your books, and the empty spaces in my closet shelves were soon filled up with enchanting but forgotten novels. And then, sometime in the seventh grade, on an excavation into the closet, a book fell off a shelve and landed right next to me. I looked down, and, low and behold! There was "The Search for Snout", one fo my favorite of your books. Seeing as I had nothing better to do, I decided to flip through it, promply to discover I had no clue what was going on! I somehow found the two other books, "Aliens ate my Homework", and "I left my Sneakers in Dimension X", and began reading. About two days later, after having finished them, I recalled that "The Search for Snout" was the last book in that series I had read, and how I had been itching to find out what had happened, but when I had last finished, no sequel had come out. I searched the web for a sequel, and found "Aliens stole my body". I read that in about a day, and was absolutely stunned at how graet it was and the memories that it brought back to me. Now, in the eighth grade, I am an avid reader of your books once again, and you are again my role model. I will continue to read them, and have even wrote some of my own that I think you would like. I just recently found this site, and had to tell you. And I found a huge difference in reading one of your books and not any others: I look forward to yours like I never have to anything else. Thank you, Mr. Coville, for giving me the gift and the joy of a masterpiece.

Mr. Coville, I am in grade 7 and an avid reader who loves fantasy books. You have given me an insight into reading beyond all other authors. You introduced me to fantasy with Into The Land Of The Unicorns, and filled my curiosity with Song of a Wanderer. I love your books. I love your description, and way with words. I am doing a book report on Song of a wanderer, and was wondering if there was anything interesting you could tell me about your books, or yourself. If you do not have enough time, I understand. Thank You Very Much, Jessica Pereira Pickering, Canada

(My Teacher Fried My Brain was the first one) I never really liked reading all that much because I have a hard do it sometimes. But for reason I can't get enough of yours. I'm 21 years old now and still look for them. I get really excited when I see a new one out, because I already all of them. My parents are greatful just to see me read even if they are for middle school kids. I just wanted to thank for for being such an awesome writer, you don't write down to kids like most authors do. I look forward to continuing to read your books both old and new. I've been looking the Song of the Wanderer but have been unable to find it. But least now I know it exists. I hope you have wonderful day. Thanks, Heather

Dear Bruce,I am a sixth grade Special Education teacher at Kunsmiller Middle School in Denver, Colorado. A few years ago, a student introduced me to your books. I am telling you - they have become lifesavers for me in the classroom!!!!! My students, no matter what the ability level, so enjoy your novels. They allow me to have some great teaching experiences and to keep my kids interested in reading! We even have a project where the students invent their own aliens. The aliens come to school and get displayed in the display case or photographed for the yearbook! A wonderful writing opportunity follows this.I am SO THANKFUL for your work!!!!!! I never tire of reading it myself. There is not one boring moment in the series, and there are thought-provoking things for kids that venture there. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!Sincerely, Linda RoemishKunsmiller Middle School2250 S. Quitman WayDenver, Colorado 80219
