Welcome to the Guestbook!

I’m always eager to read your comments about my books and stories, so please feel free to pitch in. Here are a few things for you to know:

1) I answer the messages here personally.

2) No message shows up here until I actually answer it to prevent spam and other inappropriate postings. So there will sometimes be a delay before your message posts, especially if I am traveling.

3) Teachers, a gentle request: Please do not have multiple children send me variants of the same message. A group email is much easier to respond to and not such a drain on my time. My thanks in advance for being alert to this.

Hello my name is Bobby and I am 8 years old. I like your books especially The Diary of a Mad Brownie. My favorite parts of the story are when he encounters the cat and when the girl called 911. I thought that was really funny.
Thank you for writing your books!

Hi, Bobby -

This message made me very happy, and I thank you for it. I'm so glad you liked MAD BROWNIE! The scene with Angus and the cat is the one that I like to act out when I am describing the book at school visits.

Thank you for being a reader. May you have much joy in all the books that are waiting for you!

There are three books that have Bruce Coville's name on the title but are not even listed on this website! Bruce Coville's Alien Visitors, UFOs and Shapeshifters. Why are they not listed with your other books?
Reply by Bruce Coville
Hi, Chrissy,

Those are books that I did in collaboration with a packager. The packager did not really uphold their side of the bargain, my input was not what it should have been, and I decided not to list them among my published works for that reason.

Hi, Bobby -

Glad you're interested in my books, but I don't just send them out. That would be a little like the candy store give you a candy bar just because you asked for it, or McDonald's giving you a hamburger just because you want one!

Best wishes,

Bruce Coville

Dear Mr. Coville,
I am a 4th grade teacher. I first started reading your books 20 years ago. I read "My Teacher is an Alien" when I was in the 4th grade. I now read the entire series to my class each year complete with voices for all the different characters I enjoy doing Duncan's voice the best and Poot a close second. I would have done exactly what Peter did at the end of the first book. I just wanted to say thanks for making literature fun and come alive for me all those years ago and thanks for giving me a vehicle to do the same to my students

Hi, Samuel -

I can't tell you how much this message delighted me. As you may know, I used to teach 4th grade myself. Reading to my class was my favorite part of the day, so it always thrills me to find that other teachers are using my books as read-alouds now.

When you start writing you hope to get published. Then you hope people will read the books. And after a while you hope that your readers will remember you. Thanks for remembering!

All best,

BC

Hi, Bobby -

Sorry, but I don't send out books. "Boy With Silver Eyes" is =only= available as an ebook, by the way.

I am happy that you LOVE my books!!

Dear Bruce Coville,
Our class read Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher and we really liked it. We enjoyed reading about Jeremy and Tiamat's special bond. We really enjoyed chapter eight when Mary Lou came over to Jeremey's house for dinner. We have a few questions for you. What got you into writing ? What happens after Tiamat comes back in Jeremy's head? Do you believe in dragons?

Hi, Cody, Giann, Maddy, Cornor, and Mia!

I'm delighted to know that you enjoyed JEREMY THATCHER so much. That dinner scene was fun to write. It is not easy to do "slapstick" in print, but I think I got it with that one.

What got me into writing? Simple: I love (LOVE!) books, and wanted to make my own.

On the other hand, I have no idea what happens after the end of the book.

I do indeed believe in dragons, though I don't know that we have any left in our world.

Dear Mr. Coville,
We all loved Jeremy Thatcher. It was a fun story. We liked when Tiamat breathed fire on Mr.Kravitz. It was awesome when Jeremy was riding on Tiamat. What inspired you to be interested in magic and dragons? Are you writing another book right now?
You're a great writer. Rock on!

Hi, Gigi, Maya, Alexia, Spencer B, and Tristan!

It makes me happy that you enjoyed JEREMY THATCHER. Writing the "hotfoot" scene was fun. (Mr. Kravitz was based on a rather unpleasant art teacher that my little sister had to put up with.)

I have always loved fairy tales, myths, and legends, so I like to incorporate elements of those things into my own writing. WRITE WHAT YOU LOVE!

Yes, I am working on a new book It's called DIARY OF A TERRIBLE TROLL.

Thanks for writing to me.
