Welcome to the Guestbook!

I’m always eager to read your comments about my books and stories, so please feel free to pitch in. Here are a few things for you to know:

1) I answer the messages here personally.

2) No message shows up here until I actually answer it to prevent spam and other inappropriate postings. So there will sometimes be a delay before your message posts, especially if I am traveling.

3) Teachers, a gentle request: Please do not have multiple children send me variants of the same message. A group email is much easier to respond to and not such a drain on my time. My thanks in advance for being alert to this.

Dear Bruce,
I like your book Jeremy Thatcher Dragon hatcher. I am going to go to the library and get your book so I have it at home too. Your words in the story are very interesting to read. I love the cliffhangers you put in the story. I can't wait to start reading your other books too!

Hi, Alyssa -

I'm so glad that you are enjoying JEREMY THATCHER. And that you appreciate the cliffhangers . . . I work hard to get those just right.

Hope you will enjoy the rest of my books, too!

Dear Mr. Coville,
Our class loved the book Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher. It had a lot of details about the objects in the Magic Shop. It's full of action like Jeremy running from Mary Lou. We liked that the book was about dragons. Will Jeremy every see Tiamat again? What is it like writing a story, book, or novel? Why didn't you keep on going on with the story when Jeremy and Tiamat were in differ worlds?

Hey, Gang -

Delighted to know how much you enjoyed JEREMY THATCHER.

Writing a book is fun, hard work, sometimes frustrating, sometimes wonderful when you suddenly get a new and great idea!

I didn't keep on going with the story because I thought I had told all you needed to know. Jeremy had done his job and raised Tiamat properly. Anything after where I ended would really be starting a different story.

Dear Bruce Coville,
We thought Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher is a magical story. We found it interesting that Tiamat is invisible to everyone except Jeremy and Mary Lou. Why did you make Tiamat invisible? We liked the ending because we thought Jeremy lost Tiamat forever, but he didn't! If you wrote Jeremy Thatcher 2 what would the book be about?

Hey, Guys -

Really glad to know you enjoyed JEREMY THATCHER. I think out of my more than 100 books, that is the one that will last longest after I am gone!

I needed to make Tiamat invisible because of her great size. But I didn't do that until I found a precedent in dragon folklore. In the first version of the book that I sent to the editor she was only the size of a dog at the end of the story. The editor told me to go back and make it better! ;>

I have an idea for another book, but I think it would likely be an adult book. It would be that there is something wrong in the world of the dragons, and Jeremy, Ms. Priest, and at least three other dragon hatchers would have to go to the dragon world to help out.

Dear Bruce Coville,
Can you give me the book called monsters ring.I heard it was a good book. You are a good author to me.
Reply by Bruce Coville
Hi, Kevin -

I'm glad you're interested in MONSTER'S RING. But if I just gave books away I couldn't make a living, and couldn't write any more. Just like you have to buy a candy bar at the candy store or the store goes out of business, you have to buy books or the writer goes out of business!

All best,
