Welcome to the Guestbook!

I’m always eager to read your comments about my books and stories, so please feel free to pitch in. Here are a few things for you to know:

1) I answer the messages here personally.

2) No message shows up here until I actually answer it to prevent spam and other inappropriate postings. So there will sometimes be a delay before your message posts, especially if I am traveling.

3) Teachers, a gentle request: Please do not have multiple children send me variants of the same message. A group email is much easier to respond to and not such a drain on my time. My thanks in advance for being alert to this.

Hello Mr. Coville. I was unknowingly a big fan of yours when I was little. I was a ravenous reader and would read anything I could get my hands on in grade school. I didn't realize until later that so many of my favorites were written by yourself. My favorite book as a kid was the first Unicorn Chronicles book and I didn't find out about there being more (besides A Glory of Unicorns) until I was in college. I read them and then waited for The Last Hunt to come to paperback... and waited... and waited... and now I am worried that I'll never be able to read this as the price for the hardback is rather unreasonable. Is there anything that can be done? I am disabled with muscular dystrophy so I have plenty of time on my hands.

Hi, Josh -

Thanks for this message. I am truly sorry about the unavailability of LAST HUNT. Scholastic, for reasons I have never understood, failed to release a paperback edition. I am still angry and hurt by this myself.

Do you ever listen to audiobooks? LAST HUNT =is= available in audiobook format, recorded unabridged by myself and a full cast.

All best,

I started reading the series in... 5th? Grade. I actually found the first book while cleaning out my bedroom from my childhood. After reading it again I got online so I could start purchasing 2-4. Im a bit shocked at how expensive the 4th one is!!! Is there any reason why is 40-45 dollars? The 2nd and 3rd ones are only 3 or 4 dollars in some places! I really want to finish the series because I remember the first time reading that book, my class had gone on a field trip but for some reason I couldnt go. So I spent my day in another class losing myself in it! Hope to hear from you.

Hi, Mandy -

I am also shocked and angry about the cost of the fourth book. The reason for this also angers me. It is that, for reasons I cannot understand, Scholastic never released a paperback edition. You'll notice that the high prices you're seeing are all from re-sellers. That is because the book is out of print and copies are hard to come by.

It broke my heart that Scholastic was so cavalier about this. And I think they have been manifestly unfair to the fans who have been waiting to read this book.

I am so sorry for this situation.

Sincerely

Bruce Coville

Hi Bruce! I bought "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for my daughters a number of years ago and went this past week to buy the remaining adaptations you've been a part of... they are next to impossible to find! I've used them in the past when teaching elementary students the different stories of Shakespeare and LOVE them. All my classroom copies have diasappeared over the years and I really want copies for home... any chance of them being reissued/republished?
Reply by Bruce Coville
Hi, Shelayne -

Writing those Shakespeare adaptations was one of the greatest joys of my career. Alas, except for MIDSUMMER, they're all out of print now. I do have copies of ROMEO & JULIET, TWELFTH NIGHT, and WINTER'S TALE on hand in the office. (The latter two are not listed on the website as being available as I only have one sales copy left of each.) If you'd like to purchase one or all of them send an email to info@brucecoville.com so we can work out logistics.

I'm delighted that you think so highly of the books!

I just want to say thank you. When I was in the 2nd grade, I had to enroll in ESL and your books were a great driving force in helping me improve my reading and writing skills. Space Brat, Rod Albright Alien Adventures, and Bruce Coville's Book of were some of my favorites.
It was two months ago that I begun to ask myself what were my passions. What I found out is that I did not hate writing but I just needed to write about subjects that were interesting to me.
I love that writing gives me the freedom to explore all the possibilities in the world. So far, I have written about 90 pages on a novel I'm working on. I will continue to write and work at my current job until I feel my standards are up to far.
So yes, you did inspire this early 30's something to think out the box. I now know what my passions are. One is to write and inspire people just like you. Thank you.

For our summer reading activity Riley and I are trying to finish reading our way through your books. We have 45 left to read (well 47 once Goblins on the Prowl and Diary of a Mad Brownie are published) and we were wondering if you had any tips where we should start next. We still have to read The Sixth Grade Alien Series, The Space Brat Series, Bruce Coville's Books Of, The Young Adult Novels, Chamber of Horrors, Camp Haunted Hills, The AI Gang,The Dark Abyss, Mountain of Stolen Dreams and Night of the Two New Moons. Thanks in Advance your friends Riley and Nikki

Hi, Nicole and Riley . . .

I woul start with SPACE BRAT as the most age-appropriate (and probably the funniest) and then move on to CAMP HAUNTED HILLS. After that, go to SIXTH GRADE ALIEN, with possibly the BOOKS OF to take an occasional break with short stories.

HAve fun!!

Hey Bruce! I just wanted to let you know that the guy who answers your audio book company's number is great! Probably the best conversation of my life. From his witty Anecdotes to his flawless impressions, I was quite literally laughing out loud! I will probably be telling my grandchildren about that call!

Hey, Andrew -

Glad to hear this. That guy may well have been the funniest guy to ever work in my office. Alas, he was recently eaten by a dinosaur previously considered to be an herbivore. I guess he was just too green for his own good. IT was a sad loss.

I wrote you a fairly long letter that was long overdue on your Facebook (the audiobook themed one). It probably redirected into your "Other" message tab there, so I wanted to let you know it exists in case you don't check that. Thank you.
Reply by Bruce Coville
Hi, Del -

You were smart to direct me to that - I only learned about the "Other" message tab a month or so ago, and I never remember to check it.

I'm very glad that you did let me know to go looking for it. Your message moved me deeply.

I'll also respond directly on FB.
