Welcome to the Guestbook!

I’m always eager to read your comments about my books and stories, so please feel free to pitch in. Here are a few things for you to know:

1) I answer the messages here personally.

2) No message shows up here until I actually answer it to prevent spam and other inappropriate postings. So there will sometimes be a delay before your message posts, especially if I am traveling.

3) Teachers, a gentle request: Please do not have multiple children send me variants of the same message. A group email is much easier to respond to and not such a drain on my time. My thanks in advance for being alert to this.

Mr. Coville: I was a huge fan of the Into the Land of the Unicorns as a kid, started reading them in '94 when the first one came out, and then sadly, the conclusion of the series utterly fell off my radar as an adult. I was ecstatic when I realized the conclusion had been released, then saw that it's impossible to find a copy for less than $100 or so. Is there anything we can do to try to get to Scholastic to go back for another print run? Any advice? Would you support a petition to get it back into print? Thank you so much for writing so many wonderful books.
Yours,
Nicole

Hi, Nicole -

I am so sorry (and furious!) about the situation with THE LAST HUNT. Scholastic never even put the book into paperback. I would definitely support a petition to get it back in print.

Thanks for remembering the books so fondly!

Bruce,
I have run into a dark time. My dream is to be an author, and I am currently writing a book right now. I had some things to do, and when it took a few times to actually do them, my mom took away my compute that I'm writing on! I tried to explain to her how important that is to me, but she made me shut up and leave her room. I need some help from a parent who might have experience doing something like so I can have a little insight.
Sincerely
Fellow Author Duke

Hey, Duke -

First off, sorry not to have answered sooner. I was on a tight deadline for the last two weeks - just sent the book in yesterday morning.

As to your question - Oh, man, buddy, you're in a tough spot. I hope things have settled down some now. Maybe your mom just needed some time to cool down. If not, you might try writing her a careful and respectful letter telling how much your writing means to you. Sometimes things can be said (and "heard") better on paper than when you are speaking out loud.

Good luck, buddy!

Mr. Coville, I am a 4th grade reading teacher. I am teaching a small group of boys who needed help with some reading skills. I was searching for a book that would captivate the attention of the two boys I was working with. Another teacher suggested Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher. We have been reading the book for 15 minutes a day for about 5 weeks. Let me say, the boys could not WAIT to come to my room to read this book everyday. (I looked forward to it as well.) We finished it today and the boys were sad it was over. I noticed on the front of the book that it said it was a series. I researched it and came across your site. The boys were excited and said they cannot wait for their parents to take them to the library this summer! YAY!!! Thanks so much for having this guest book. The boys will be excited to hear about your response!

Hi, Katherine -

Thanks so much for this message. I was also a fourth grade teacher (I love that age group - I think it's the last great year of childhood) and it delights me to know how your boys enjoyed JEREMY.

I think the next one for them to read is THE MONSTER'S RING. I hope they'll enjoy it.

Thanks so much for sharing my stories with your boys.

I love your book Always October beacuse i always loved to think magic an monsters were real and also its cause its about my birthday month. Also a question are you going th make a sequel to this because i really dont like cliffhangers. XD
Reply by Bruce Coville
Hi, Ivanna -

So glad you liked ALWAYS OCTOBER! I've been very upset because the publisher decided not to put out a paperback version, which means it won't reach as many readers as I had hoped. So it's especially good to hear from someone who has found and enjoyed the book.

A sequel seems unlikely right now, given what I said above about the publisher not even doing a paperback version. And to be honest, I'm not sure I could come up with a sequel. I nearly broke my brain trying to write this one! (On the other hand, I love the way it came out . . . )

Thanks for reading . . . and for stopping by to say hello!

Hi,
I love The Nina Tanleven books! They are so awesome!I was so thrilled when the newest book came out.I only wish that there were many more.

Hi, Sharon -

Ah, delighted to know that you love these books. They are personal favorites, as Nina is based on my daughter, and her dad is an improved version of ... me!

There is one fairly lengthy Nine and Chris story called "The Ghost Let Go" that you would probably enjoy. You can get it as a 99 cent ebook on Amazon or Smashwords.

I finished the my teacher is an alien series and i want more after the my teacher flunked the planet
Reply by Bruce Coville
Hi, Unknown! I had a lot of pressure to write another book after FLUNKED THE PLANET, but I honestly felt that I had said what I wanted to say with that series. I did not want to write one of those series that keeps going with books that get weaker and weaker. When it comes to a series, I think it is best to stop while you are at the top!

I absolutely love your work! I am just wondering why The Last Hunt is not available for purchase. Thanks!
Reply by Bruce Coville
Hi, Sherry -

So glad you love the books.

There is no good reason that THE LAST HUNT is not available. The bad reason is that the publisher, Scholastic, simply decided not to release it in paperback. I am baffled, saddened, and deeply hurt by this decision, and I know it has caused a lot of distress to my fans. I apologize for this, but I have no control over what the heartless beancounters of publishing decide!

With regrets,
